Ecclesiological Bankruptcy

I’ve come to think of this as “ecclesiological bankruptcy,” and its prevalence is frightening:

“Whether they think of themselves as liberal or conservative, as ethically and politically left or right, American Christians have fallen into the bad habit of acting as if the church really does not matter as we go about trying to live like Christians.” Hauerwas and Willimon, Resident Aliens, 69.

I would add that this not only applies to American Christians, but also to a fair few American Christian theologians.
