Ok, I opened and closed the shutoff valve for the hot water on my kitchen faucet. At first, it wouldn’t completely block the flow. But after a couple turns back and forth, now nothing comes out of the faucet even when the shutoff valve is fully open! What’s going on here? #plumbing #plumber

What’s the best definition of “white Christian nationalism” you’ve come across?
Looking for a church in Toledo, OH that loves Jesus, has Holy Communion every week, has at least a few other young families, and isn’t infected with white Christian nationalism. Not interested in “concert and a TED talk.” Any recommendations?
I resurrected my Twitter account (@joshuapsteele). Thoughts and prayers (and follows, let’s be honest) appreciated.
What does G.O.P. stand for, anyways? (Wrong answers only)

It’s a bit odd, getting reacquainted with your hometown (Toledo, OH) after over a decade away!
Absolute dumpster fire of a week! Just happy to still be standing. Here’s hoping next week is better.
Claim: You can’t love Jesus of Nazareth and hate immigrants.
Seems like we need some good political theology these days. Reading recommendations?

📚Finally finished listening to “The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz” by Erik Larson. I really enjoyed it. A sobering, fascinating read. Give it a go if you enjoy reading about WWII, Churchill, etc.!

What’s a good word (maybe a German word?) for “that sinking feeling you get as a parent when one of your children starts to get sick and you know it’s only a matter of time before the wave of illness makes its way through the house”?
📚 Just got my copy of “Thinking in Systems: A Primer” by Donella H. Meadows. Excited to read this book!
I’d like to get a copy of “Java: The Complete Reference.” I’m wondering how much of an update/improvement the recently-released 13th edition is over the 12th edition. Any #Java geeks out there who can weigh-in?
One of the saddest, most frustrating things I’ve witnessed in my life: seeing large swaths of American evangelicalism so readily embrace Trumpism and Christian Nationalism. It’s tempting to despair.
This is why micro.blog is the best corner of the internet!
Fellow software engineers: If you were to get laid-off, which books, tips, tools, etc. would be in your “Find-the-next-gig Go Bag”? (I’m thinking along the lines of “Cracking the Coding Interview,” “System Design Interview,” “Designing Data-Intensive Applications,” etc.)
