As a software dev, I’m often glad I don’t have to read dense theology every day. But then I get to a sentence like this in a dev book and my brain melts a little: “To detect inconsistencies and minimize the amount of data exchanged, replicas can exchange Merkle tree hashes with a gossip protocol.”

“Churches should focus on preaching and teaching the Word of God, administering the Sacraments (Holy Communion and Baptism), and serving the welfare of their local communities.” joshuapsteele.com/25-possib…

I’d forgotten the midwestern majesty of Menards. Could probably spend a whole day inside of one.

Just observing: I forgot how often people clap in other churches 👏👏👏⛪️⛪️⛪️

What are the top 1-3 books you’ve read that have given you perspective on current USA and/or global events?

I just want a mechanical pencil with the build/weight of a Rotring, the rotating lead of a Uni Kuru Toga, the retractable lead sleeve of the Pentel Graphgear, and a thick, good eraser! ✏️

What’s the best pencil you’ve ever used? 📝

“Diary, it’s been three weeks—or so they tell me—in the shadowy streets of Toledo, where time and health have both forsaken me. Under the glow of that mocking beacon, ‘You Will Do Better In Toledo,’ my nights are a blend of coughs and cold sweats. I’m playing the waiting game now, eager for Spring.”

Happy Valentine’s Day ❤️ and Ash Wednesday 💀! Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return! Feels like Lent 2020 never ended, amirite?

We “visited” a new church virtually today because our kids are sick. During the children’s talk/sermon, just one kid came up front. Our 5yo: “Oh, do they make them go one at a time?” 🥲 Finding a new church home is hard.

Let’s say someone sincerely believes that the USA is a “Christian nation,” at least in the sense that “Judeo-Christian values” played an importan role in the nation’s history. Which book(s) would be most likely to change their mind or add more nuance to their views?

Which of your habits (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) has contributed the most to your success? Which have done the most to hold you back? Please share!

Oh no. The sickness loop might be closing around us. I’m still not back to 100% (lingering head/chest congestion and cough), and now our first kid that got sick about 3 weeks ago has a sore throat and a low fever 🤒.

Ok, I opened and closed the shutoff valve for the hot water on my kitchen faucet. At first, it wouldn’t completely block the flow. But after a couple turns back and forth, now nothing comes out of the faucet even when the shutoff valve is fully open! What’s going on here? #plumbing #plumber

What’s the best definition of “white Christian nationalism” you’ve come across?

Looking for a church in Toledo, OH that loves Jesus, has Holy Communion every week, has at least a few other young families, and isn’t infected with white Christian nationalism. Not interested in “concert and a TED talk.” Any recommendations?

I resurrected my Twitter account (@joshuapsteele). Thoughts and prayers (and follows, let’s be honest) appreciated.

What does G.O.P. stand for, anyways? (Wrong answers only)
