"The word 'God' is nothing at all; the name 'God' is everything."

Bonhoeffer, DBWE 16:640:

The word “God” is nothing at all; the name “God” is everything. ¶ In many ways people today perceive that God is not only a word but also a name. For this reason they like to avoid saying “God” and instead say “the Divine,” “Destiny,” “Providence,” “Nature,” “the Almighty.” To them “God” always sounds almost like a confession. They do not want that. They want the word but not the name; for the name entails an obligation.
